Whether you are relatively new to fundraising, have several years’ experience, or want to gain professional qualifications – and demonstrate this through your membership grade – there is a type of membership which is right for you.
Membership grades reflect a combination of experience and qualifications. Letters after your name demonstrate where you are in your career - and as you progress in your role as a fundraiser, you can make sure your grade always reflects your current position.
Which grade is right for you?
Associate member
You should apply to become an Associate member if you have less than five years’ experience in fundraising. You simply need to submit an application for approval and provide a reference, and can join online or download an Associate member application form.
Associate membership is £80 a year, which can be paid annually or quarterly by Direct Debit if you prefer. (For new members, there is an additional one-off joining fee of £22 - reduced to £15 if you choose to pay your subscription by Direct Debit).
Full member - MInstF
There are two routes to becoming a Full Member:
- You can apply to join at this level if you have more than five years’ proven experience in fundraising. Your application should include a full work history (or CV), and your referee(s) will be asked to comment on, and support, the detail you provide as part of this process. You can join online.
Full membership is £90 a year, which can be paid annually or quarterly by Direct Debit if you prefer. (For new members, there is an additional one-off joining fee of £22. New applications to this grade can't be paid by Direct Debit, although you may of course choose to pay this way after your first year.)
- If you decide to gain professional qualifications to reflect your career development, you can apply to become a Full Member by completing either the Fundraising Practice or Managing Fundraising module of the Certificate in Fundraising Management.
You may be a current Associate member who chooses to ‘upgrade’ this way, or you may come ‘new’ to membership having decided to pursue one of these courses first – the choice is as individual as you are. Just contact the Professional Development Team for help and guidance.
Full Certificated member - MInstF(Cert)
This level of membership is only available to those who have completed both the Fundraising Practice and Managing Fundraising modules, and have undertaken the Certificate in Fundraising Management.
Please contact the Professional Development Team for help and guidance.
Full Certificated membership is £90 a year.
Fellow
Those members who are recognised as having made a special contribution to both the fundraising profession and the Institute may be nominated to Fellowship. Nominations are approved by the Board of Trustees and the announcement of new Fellows is made annually at the AGM, which takes place at National Convention.
Fellow membership is £90 a year.
There are four easy ways to pay your membership subscription:
- Direct Debit (annually or quarterly)
- Cheque (made payable to ‘Institute of Fundraising’)
- Debit/Credit Card (there is a 2.75% surcharge for credit card transactions)
- By requesting an invoice.
