This group is for anyone working in or with charities and who has an interest in fundraising and technology.
In a fast changing world, “Technology” for us includes, but is not limited to, websites, databases, the Internet, e-fundraising, or even the humble spreadsheet.
This often means we discuss closely related topics such as Gift Aid, Data Protection, list swapping, data hygiene, and New Media trends. You don’t have to be technical to participate in the group, and indeed, most of our attendees aren’t!
Following a very successful Conference in May, our programme for the year ahead is very varied - including presentations, webinars and debates
Next Event: 19th November: Data Processing - when is it right to pay someone else to do it for you?
4pm - 6pm, followed by drinks and networking
The King's Fund 11-13 Cavendish Square, London W1G OAN
When your organisation is generating so much data processing work that you feel like putting up the white flag, should you just stick at it or is it better to pay an expert to help out or improve your own in-house processes? This event will consider both approaches - one from a charity and one from a data processing specialist - and give you the chance to discuss and debate the pros and cons
- James Redding, the newly appointed Supporter Services and Relationship Manager at Breast Cancer Care, will talk about reviewing in-house processing systems. How do you measure process efficiency and costs? When might outsource be cheaper and better? How can you avoid losing crucial data, for example by not over-recording mail opt-outs? James’s background is in retail banking so he brings a fresh perspective to these age-old challenges!
- Hamish Horton, MD of Valldata, has been providing outsourcing solutions for charities large and small. He has a case study to share concerning a national charity from which he has derived some metrics that should provide useful benchmarks. That is key because once you know the typical time and cost components of basic data processing tasks, then you should be better informed as to whether outsourcing data processing is right for you.
At this event the Technology Group will also hold their AGM.
