Fundraising with Children

Involving children in fundraising can be a great way to raise money, engender a culture of giving and get children involved in your organisation.

If working with children, it is vital that steps are taken to safeguard both children and fundraising staff as well ensuring the security of any funds raised.

There are a number of potential regulations and issues to be aware of so take some time to estabish how best to involve children in your fundraising.

Codes of Fundraising Practice

The Institute's Fundraising in Schools Code of Fundraising Practice provides organisations with guidance and best practice for organisations that want to engage schools and young children in fundraising activities.

The Codes set out legal and best practice requirements for a range of fundraising techniques. All of the Codes are available online.

Institute Information

The Institute has produced a briefing in conjunction with the NSPCC in regards to fundraising with children. This briefing deals with some of the legalities such as when parental consent is needed, collecting data of a child and the need for CRB checks.

Many organisations are concerned about when children can and cannot handle money, and more information on this subject can be found on the public collections page.

Institute Groups

Special Interest Groups are voluntary groups of run by fundraisers to facilitate networking and support. The Fundraising from Children and Young People group was set up to provide a forum for individuals and organisations interested in this aspect of fundraising.
