Are there any factors specific to the Three Peaks Challenge that we should be aware of?

All of the above should be taken into consideration. Further to that inform the authorities at the three locations of your event. This particular challenge event is naturally very popular in the summer months so it is recommended that you try and avoid late June and early July, weekends if possible and bank holidays.

Ease congestion by limiting group size and staggering times. On a safety level, ensure everything is checked and planned and brief all walkers.

Inform local Police if it is a large event and make sure you have high quality marshals with local experience.

Also, something that can easily be overlooked is do not take large coaches as often the country lanes are too small to accommodate them, minibuses are a much better option if you want to actually reach the start line.

These a are few basic recommendations but the Institute, in conjunction with CARE International UK, has developed a summary code leaflet on this subject which has more detail including recommendations for each peak. If you would like a free copy please email your details to Info.

The Institute has also published a full Outdoor Fundraising in the UK Code of Fundraising Practice (261kb).
