The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is the central opt-out register for individuals who do not wish to receive unsolicited sales or marketing calls. It is a legal obligation to abide by the wishes of those on the TPS register which applies to fundraising calls as well as those for commercial sales.
A recent White Paper by Hugh McCaw at Relationship Marketing indicates that, when the regulations were introduced, there was an appetite for fundraising calls to be excluded from the rules for commercial sales calls but this was never pursued.
The Institute of Fundraising is now working with Relationship Marketing to establish whether there is an appetite amongst fundraisers for a change to the Telephone Preference Service regulations.
