As a result of the current economic climate, there has been a vast amount of speculation about the future of fundraising organisations and their ability to continue to raise money. The Institute has taken a proactive approach to appreciating and understanding members’ concerns, and positive steps to providing support through these challenging times.
Together with the Charity Finance Directors' Group (CFDG) and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC), we recently carried out THE definitive piece of research into this complex issue.
This research focused on the potential impact of an economic slowdown, or recession, on fundraising organisations – and the results are of direct relevance to fundraising and finance directors, as well as helping to support charities' plans for the future.
The findings, and suggested strategies for future activities, were presented to members of the Institute, members of the CFDG, and invited guests, at a special event held on 1 December 2008.
We are delighted to make the following freely available to Institute members:
- Managing in a Downturn survey report
- Copy of the presentation given at the event
- Audio recordings of the presentations and Q&A session are also available at the bottom of the page
To provide a further source of information and support, the Institute held a conference on 26 February 2009: Fundraising in an Economic Downturn - Surviving and Thriving which aimed to help delegates:
- Understand how their peers are planning to navigate their way through challenging economic conditions.
- Hear the latest expert market analysis and informed thinking.
- Gain valuable insights from Government, legislators, leading charities and specialist consultants.
- Take home practical advice and information.
Speaker recordings and the Powerpoints they used on the day are for sale in the Media Store, discounted for charities and Individual members.
