Types of Membership

Whether you’re new to fundraising, have several years’ experience, or want to gain professional qualifications - there is a membership grade which is right for you.

Individual membership grades reflect a combination of your experience and your qualifications. Letters after your name reflect where you are in your career and, as you progress in your role as a fundraiser, you can make sure your grade reflects this.

Joining IoF - which grade should I choose?

You can join IoF at Associate or Full (MinstF) grade depending on your experience:

Associate membership is right for you if you have less than five years’ experience in fundraising. You simply need to complete an online application and provide details of a referee who will confirm that they believe you will abide by the IoF Code of Fundraising Practice.

Full member (MinstF) is the grade to choose if you have more than five years’ proven experience in fundraising. Your application must include a CV/work history and details of two referees who will be asked to support your work history and confirm that they believe you will abide by the IoF Code of Fundraising Practice.

How much does it cost to join?

Joining Fee:

Whichever grade you choose, you’ll pay a one-off joining fee plus the relevant annual subscription. The joining fee is £22, reduced to £16 if you choose to pay by direct debit.

Qualified Member Grades - MinstF(Cert) and MinstF(Dip)

If you’re joining IoF because you have decided to study for one of our professional qualifications, please contact the team at academy@institute-of-fundraising.org.uk or on 0207 840 1020 for help and guidance. When you register for your chosen qualification course, you will firstly become a Full (MinstF) member and enjoy the benefits of IoF membership while you’re studying. • When you achieve the Certificate in Fundraising, you’ll upgrade to MInstF(Cert)
• When you achieve the Diploma in Fundraising, you’ll upgrade to MInstF(Dip)

* On-going annual membership fees for qualified grades are the same as those for Full (MinstF) grade, ie: £99, reduced to £96 if you choose to pay by direct debit.

IoF Fellow

Those members who are recognised as having made a special contribution to both the fundraising profession and the Institute may be nominated to Fellowship. Nominations are approved by the Board of Trustees and the announcement of new Fellows is made annually at the AGM, which takes place at National Convention.
