Types of Membership
You may be new to fundraising, have several years’ experience, or want to gain professional qualifications. Whichever your circumstance – there is a type of membership which is right for you.
Individual membership grades reflect a combination of your experience and your qualifications. Letters after your name clearly show where you are in your career and, as you progress in your role as a fundraiser, you can make sure your grade reflects this.
Which grade is right for you?
Associate member
Associate membership is right for you if you have less than five years’ experience in fundraising. You simply need to complete an application and provide details of one referee who will confirm that they believe you will abide by the IoF Code of Fundraising Practice.
Associate membership costs £86 a year for those paying by *direct debit (£89 if paying by other methods). There is an additional one-off joining fee of £15 if you are paying by direct debit (£22 if paying by other methods).
*Please note that if you are paying by direct debit, your membership will begin once your first payment has been taken.
It’s quick and simple to become an Associate member – you can join online.
Full member - MInstF
You can apply to join at this level if you have more than five years’ proven experience in fundraising. Your application must include a CV/work history and details of two referees who will be asked to support your work history and confirm that they believe you will abide by the IoF Code of Fundraising Practice.
Full membership costs £96 a year for those paying by *direct debit (£99 if paying by other methods). For new members, there is an additional one-off joining fee of £15 if you are paying by direct debit (£22 if paying by other methods).
*Please note that if you are paying by direct debit, your membership will begin once your first payment has been taken.
To become a Full member via this ‘experience’ route, please join online.
Fully Qualified member - MinstF(Cert) and MinstF(Dip)
If you choose to gain professional qualifications to reflect your career development, you will firstly become a Full Member - MinstF - at the time of registering to pursue either the Certificate in Fundraising or the Diploma in Fundraising. When you successfully gain your qualification, your membership will be upgraded and you will be able to use the letters MInstF(Cert) or MInstF(Dip) after your name.
Just contact the team at academy@institute-of-fundraising.org.uk or on 0207 840 1020 for help and guidance on becoming a member by this route.
IoF Fellow
Those members who are recognised as having made a special contribution to both the fundraising profession and the Institute may be nominated to Fellowship. Nominations are approved by the Board of Trustees and the announcement of new Fellows is made annually at the AGM, which takes place at National Convention.
