Even smaller organisations stand a chance when pitching for Charity of the Year partnerships, fundraisers will learn from Kate Green, Corporate Affairs Co-ordinator at John Lewis, as part of the Institute of Fundraising’s (‘Institute’) forthcoming Corporate Fundraising conference.
The event is to be held on Thursday 24 April 2008 at the Royal Over-Seas League, London, SW1.
Charity partnerships are ultimately successful when they involve an exchange of skills and ideas, and are not necessarily restricted to one charity partnering with a single corporate.
A presentation at the conference about the HBOS £ Million Challenge will outline how in 2007 HBOS embarked on a unique partnership with four charities. Each charity needed to work closely not only with its corporate partner but also with the other charities involved.
Following delegate feedback, practical sessions on tax and the law have also been included in the conference programme, including a session on the different types of sponsorship and affinity arrangements.
The proof that charity partnerships can continue long term will be shown through the closing plenary at the event. UNICEF and British Airways have successfully maintained a prosperous partnership for 14 years that will reach its £25 million milestone this spring.
Their ‘Change for Good’ programme has successfully engaged BA’s customers and motivated their staff, and both organisations will explain how they have made a positive impact in the local communities in which they work.
Institute member Jackie Tanner, Head of Corporate Partnerships at Cancer Research UK and Chair of this event, says:
'The Corporate fundraising market place gets more competitive day by day with the recognition that corporate partnerships can deliver real benefits well beyond the traditional funding proposition. In the best examples, they can deliver against the key management objectives for both charity and corporate partners alike.
'As such, every corporate fundraiser must keep ahead of emerging trends and best practice so that they can position their organisation to reap the benefits of fundraising in the corporate market place.'
The comprehensive programme includes presentations from Organisational members including British Heart Foundation, RNLI, Comic Relief and UNICEF and other organisations including WRVS, Family Holiday Association, HBOS, EACH and British Airways.
