Fundraising debate reaches House of Lords

Lords recognition of IoF Direct Mail standards setting

The Institute welcomes the House of Lords debate on fundraising, and in particular charities’ use of Direct Mail, which took place in the House of Lords on 8th July 2009.

Part of the debate included the observation that some charities include items such as coins in Direct Mail packs, which is counter to the guidance provided in the Instititute's Code of Fundraising Practice which covers this form of fundraising.

According to Louise Richards, Director of Policy and Campaigns, at the Institute of Fundraising:

'We’re pleased the House of Lords recognise the importance of our work in promoting best practice in fundraising, and self-regulation. We’ve been campaigning to stop bad practice in Direct Mail and the fact that this has been mentioned in the Lords is recognition of the success of our campaign.'
