The Institute of Fundraising (‘Institute’) is to carry out a members review on Gift Aid to coincide with the Government-led consultation on the mechanism.
The Institute is to investigate a Gift Aid system which raises more money with less administrative burden for charities. To this end, the Institute will focus on looking at how Gift Aid from higher rate donors can potentially be returned to the charity rather than the donor, and how the audit process can be simpler and proportionate.
The Institute’s consultation will take place in two parts – the first to collate evidence and ideas from its membership; from mid-August to the end of September the Institute will work with other umbrella bodies to ensure the sector is presenting a clear, concise and unified message. Individual submissions will additionally be encouraged.
A consultation document will be sent to all members next week to encourage submissions. This process is designed to allow inclusion in the pre-budget statement from the new Chancellor in November.
