Working with volunteers to deliver challenge events locally is a new concept from Institute Organisational member Action Medical Research. Insight from the charity will form a key session in the Institute’s Successful Community and Volunteer Fundraising one-day conference. The event will take place on 7th December 2009 at RBS Head Office, 280 Bishopsgate, London, EC2.
Lewis Coghlin, Director of Fundraising at Action Medical Research will present a session at the event which will discuss how the charity set up a programme of challenge events delivered by volunteers, how the organisation hopes to develop the programme and exploring the practicalities of allowing volunteers to organise their own events in this way.
The event will also feature Institute Organisational member NSPCC’s assessment of how the current economic climate has impacted on its fundraising, and discuss why community is an essential area of investment and the necessary steps to take to grow and reinforce this area of fundraising.
The Big Lunch is a fundraising initiative designed to bring back Britain’s community spirit. A case study presented at the one-day conference will show that there are different ways to promote community engagement and will illustrate how to get your project going, put the word out, even when marketing on a shoestring budget, and utilise online technology and social media to support the campaign.
Kirsty Thomson, Head of Events at the Institute of Fundraising, says:
'There has been a surge in volunteer applications this year, which represents a big opportunity for charities to use this trend to their advantage.
'There’s skill involved in using volunteers wisely, in a way which brings about real benefits and inspires community action. This conference will illustrate how this is possible, with a range of inspirational case studies and best practice sessions.'
