Proud winners of 2009 awards announced

Suzy McIlveen Fundraising Event of the Year winner (Mencap), with Heather Pollock Fundraising Volunteer of the Year (Clic Sargent)Winners at the Institute of Fundraising Northern Ireland Awards include Mencap and Heather Pollock, a volunteer fundraiser with Clic Sargent NI, who scooped Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year.

Mencap’s event “The Y Factor” scooped the Fundraising Event/Campaign Award. Appealing to a very broad range of Belfast businesses the event was unique and highly entertaining and raised £16,858. A take on the popular X Factor, it called on budding business men and women to sing their way to success in front of their friends and colleagues.

Suzy McIlveen, Mencap’s Regional Fundraiser and organiser of “The Y Factor” commented:

'Mencap are delighted to have been awarded Event of the Year for our inaugural Y Factor, hosted in Belfast in January 2009. Y Factor successfully adds a new and unique event to our portfolio and we were overwhelmed by the support we received not only on the night but in our planning stages.'

Lindsay Boswell Chief Executive of the Institute of Fundraising with Heather Pollock Fundraising Volunteer of the Year (Clic Sargent) and Amanda Brobyn Development Manager (Unity Trust Bank) Naomi Conway, Community Fundraising Manager for Northern Ireland, CLIC Sargent said:

'Heather has been a loyal volunteer for CLIC Sargent for more than three years and works tirelessly to raise funds and the profile of the charity. It is great that her dedication and enthusiasm to help children and young people with cancer and their families has been formerly recognised. We send her our best wishes and congratulations on winning the award.'

The awards were set up by the IoF in 2005 to formally recognise excellence in fundraising, and presented during the Northern Ireland Annual Convention. Since then, every year charities and community groups have submitted entries in two categories: Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year and Fundraising Event/Campaign of the Year.

Sponsored by Unity Trust Bank the awards were presented by Lindsay Boswell, Chief Executive, Institute of Fundraising and Amanda Brobyn NI Development Manager, Unity Trust Bank.
