The Institute of Fundraising Scotland has launched a new charity income tracker as a service to its members.
Member charities will be able to feed in their latest incomes in confidence on a monthly basis to the Institute who will then collate and summarise the results highlighting key trends across the different income streams.
The tracker will also act as a robust benchmarking tool to see how member’s charities are performing across the various fundraising techniques.
Whilst there is an emerging body of data indicating how donors intend to adjust their giving in light of changing economic circumstances, and many individual examples of slower or negative growth in certain areas, this will be the first research to record and compare actual income trends amongst charities across Scotland.
It will produce a breakdown of incomes across six streams: Trusts/Foundations; Statutory; Individuals; Corporate; Events; and Legacies.
Scotland Manager Gregor McNie commented:
'There is a significant amount of uncertainly in the sector as to how the economic downturn will affect charitable fundraising in various areas, whether in working with companies, in donations from individuals or in engaging major donors.
'Amongst this, charities have largely relied on anecdotal evidence to assess their relative performance in fundraising through this period, but the new tracker will allow Institute members in Scotland to gain an accurate and real-time picture of how they are performing across the various income streams.'
The first full analysis of data received so far is expected to be available shortly and initially only to those participating in the tracker service. Headline data will be made available periodically.
