Revision to Outdoor Fundraising Code: Working Party Required

Applications from individuals interested in developing the ‘Outdoor Fundraising in the UK’ Code of Fundraising Practice are currently being invited.

Those interested in becoming part of the working party need to submit their nominations to the Institute of Fundraising by 21st November 2008.

The Institute wishes to revise the Code, which includes a specific section about the Three Peaks Challenge. It will take on board concerns about such events expressed by organisations affected by this activity.

It is vital that the Code sets best practice standards which facilitate the sustainability of fundraising events.

Members of the working party should have:

  • Experience of organising outdoor fundraising events in the UK;
  • Knowledge of Institute of Fundraising Codes of Fundraising Practice;
  • Ability to think creatively and analytically about communicating sometimes complex messages about fundraising;
  • Ability to commit to the draft timetable below;
  • Commitment to ensuring a sustainable fundraising environment.

It is anticipated that the first working party meeting will take place in January 2008, with a draft Code being produced during summer 2009 and the Code publication taking place in 2010.

Megan Pacey, Director of Policy and Campaigns at the Institute of Fundraising, says:
'Outdoor events are a method of fundraising which often receive significant press coverage, yet are dominated by anxieties about the numbers and attitudes of people undertaking them.

'In order to continue to be sustainable, standards need to be set around such events which meet the requirements of all interested parties, including land owners, local people, operators, fundraisers and fundraising organisations.'

Expressions of interest to become Chair of, or to join, the working party should be sent either by email or by post to:
