The Institute of Fundraising is launching a consultation on its future learning strategy, with a document describing the Institute’s proposed agenda for fundraisers’ learning and development over the next five years.
The paper describes the Institute’s learning vision and proposes new frameworks for continuing professional development, professional qualifications and career-long learning.
The paper is currently being circulated to Institute members and key opinion formers, with a view to implementing recommendations during late 2009 onwards.
Key to the Institute’s vision for learning, ‘Career-long Learning for Excellent Fundraising’, is the proposal that fundraisers and their employers will view Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as the way to maintain and improve their professional and personal skills and knowledge.
A new qualifications framework will meet the needs of fundraisers at every stage of their career, and a pilot mentoring scheme will be introduced in partnership with the Institute’s South West Region, with a view to ultimately establishing an accessible, flexible and UK wide mentoring scheme.
Paul Marvell, Director of Learning at the Institute of Fundraising, comments:
'The main point of this paper is to set out the Institute’s thoughts, and indeed to start a debate, on what needs to be done to further develop fundraising as a profession.
'I would encourage all fundraisers to read the paper, consider its contents and join the debate. I believe that with a strategic, career-long approach to learning and development, the Institute can help empower a stronger, more sustainable future for the not-for-profit sector. I am excited about receiving the views of fellow fundraisers and to driving this strategy forward.'
