Postal Strike Update
Royal Mail and Communication Workers Union reach 'interim agreement'
The Institute of Fundraising welcomes the fact that an ‘interim agreement’ has been reached between the Royal Mail and the Communication Workers Union. This represents a huge relief for charities, given that the run up to Christmas is a crucial period in terms of fundraising.
The agreement is valid until the end of the year and ensures there will be no strikes during this period.
Louise Richards, Director of Campaigns and Policy at the Institute of Fundraising, comments:
“We are very pleased with this development. We hope now that trust and confidence is restored on both sides and that the dispute comes to an end. Charities that are particularly reliant on postal donations and direct mail will be especially relieved by this news, but the entire sector will be pleased this progress has come at such a critical time.”
She added:
“We will continue to analyse the effect that industrial action has had on the sector and hope that this interim agreement will pave the way for a long term settlement.”
