Shortlist Announced for Expanded National Awards

Today, the Institute of Fundraising (‘Institute’) is delighted to announce the shortlisted nominations for its National Awards 2008 - the only awards created by fundraisers for fundraisers.

This year, the Awards include two new categories, Best Use of Payroll Giving and Best Use of Legacy Fundraising.

Sponsored by Dataforce Charities, with ThirdSectorJobs.co.uk as the media partners, this year’s National Awards received over 275 applications.

This includes 55 nominations for Best Business Charity Partnership, 32 nominations for Fundraising Team of the Year, 27 nominations for Best Use of Direct Mail and 26 nominations for the Most Innovative Fundraising Campaign.

Entries were judged by leading sector experts, and the winners will be announced at a gala dinner held on Monday 7th July, the first night of the Institute's three-day National Convention.

The shortlist for the National Awards 2008 is as follows:

  • Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year – Peter Chapman and Richard Raymond, Elizabeth Haycock, Liam Fairhurst;
  • Fundraising Team of the Year – ActionAid Trusts and Foundations Team, Penny Brohn Cancer Care, South Yorkshire Community Foundation;
  • Best Fundraising Charity to Work for – Cancer Research UK, Prostate Cancer Research Foundation, Save the Children;
  • Best up-and-coming Fundraiser – Rufus Crust, Hollie Wells, Michelle Wright;
  • Fundraiser of the Year – Adrian Burder, Michael Dent, Andy Williamson;
  • Best Business-Charity Partnership – ‘Crisis Care in your Neighbourhood’: British Red Cross - Tesco Charity of the Year 2007, Lloyds TSB Group’s ‘Near to You, Here for You’ Charity of the Year 2006 partnership with Breast Cancer Care, The Herts 10k, ‘Volunteering for an Active Lifestyle’ – Scouts partnership with Sainsburys;
  • Best Donor Development Campaign – Help The Aged – Raffles Product – An All Time High!, RSPB Marine Biology Warm Appeal Mailing, Sense Scotland Home Money Box campaign;
  • Best Local/ Regional Campaign – Children’s Hospice South West – ‘Babe’s Big Appeal’, South Yorkshire Flood Disaster Relief Fund, The Chaseley Trust Diamond Appeal;
  • Most Innovative Fundraising Campaign – Crisis Reverse Graffiti Campaign, Prostate Cancer ‘Give a Few Bob’, Soil Association Box Scheme Insert;
  • Best use of Direct Mail – Art Fund ‘Save the Blue Rigi’, Wet-AMD Treatment and Emergency Follow-up Campaign, Woodland Trust Brede High Woods Appeal;
  • Best use of E-Media – Crisis Christmas Card Challenge – Send a Card, Everyman Male Cancer Campaign TacheBack ‘Tache Wars’ 2007, WSPA 2007 programme of acquisition and development for donors recruited online;
  • Best Face-to-Face Campaign – Delice de France, Cancer Research UK – Street Prospecting Campaign, VSO Home Fundraising Campaign 2007 (door to door);
  • Best use of Legacy Fundraising – Royal Mencap Society Wills and Trusts Information Service, RSPCA Home for Life, National Trust legacy events programme 2007;
  • Best use of Payroll Giving – Barclay’s relaunch of Matched Payroll Giving, The Myton Hospices ‘Making Payday Count’ Campaign, Woodland Trust Carbon Offset Payroll Giving launch;
  • Best use of the Telephone – Barclay’s Rolling Reactivation Programme, Breakthrough Breast Cancer telephone donor recruitment from cold data, British Red Cross Bangladesh cyclone emergency telephone appeal to regular givers.

Commenting on the National Awards, Kirsty Thomson, Head of Events, Institute of Fundraising, said:
