The Institute of Fundraising invites fundraisers to apply to our Diversity Access Fund
3 May 2018
The Institute of Fundraising (IoF), the professional membership body for UK fundraisers, has set up an Access Fund to support and enable a diverse range of fundraisers to develop their skills and experience.
The Access Fund will initially provide free passes to Fundraising Convention 2018, the largest event for the fundraising community in Europe. Bursaries for travel and accommodation costs will also be included. The IoF invite fundraisers who self-identify as BAME (Black, Asian or from a Minority Ethnic background), LGBT+, or disabled to apply for the Access Fund by 5pm on 8th June 2018.
The bursaries are the first output from the Expert Advisory Panel on Equality, Diversity & Inclusion who were appointed in February this year to develop a strategy for the IoF to tackle the lack of diversity in the profession.
The IoF have put forward £5,000 to begin the fund and are looking for partners and supporters to join the initiative by contributing to the fund in order to enable more fundraisers from diverse backgrounds to attend Convention.
For more information on the eligibility criteria and application process, please see the Fundraising Convention website via www.fundraisingconvention.uk/delegate-booking-2018/bursaries.
Sufina Ahmad, Chair of the Expert Panel, said
“As Chair of the Expert Panel I am delighted that the IoF has taken the initiative to launch this Access Fund for Convention 2018. Whilst our main role is to develop a long term strategy for the IoF to improve the diversity and inclusiveness of the fundraising profession, we believe it is important that the IoF launches this Fund to enable more fundraisers from diverse communities to attend Convention.”
Amanda Bringans, Chair of the IoF, said
“Supporting the fundraising profession to become more diverse is an absolute priority for me as Chair of the IoF. Fundraising Convention is the key event in the fundraising community’s calendar, and I am delighted that whilst we are still developing our long term strategy, we are also launching this fund to help fundraisers who would otherwise be unable to attend Convention.”
Peter Lewis, Chief Executive of the IoF, said
“I am delighted that we have been able to move quickly and launch this £5k fund to increase access to Fundraising Convention. However we would really like to double the impact of this fund, and I would ask all our very committed corporate partners, and our members more widely, to come together to match our £5k, and create a £10k fund for Convention in 2018. A £500 gift to the fund will cover a one day pass, travel and accommodation costs. £1k will cover a 3 day pass, travel and accommodation.”
