Change Collective Pledge: We want to hear from you

Change Collective Pledge: We want to hear from you

Institute of Fundraising | 21 July 2020

The Change Collective Strategy commits to creating a pledge on equality, diversity and inclusion for fundraisers and the fundraising profession. We are consulting with you to inform what we develop and roll out to the sector. Help us create our Change Collective pledge to the sector. Elizabeth Balgobin, Interim Head of EDI, explains more about the consultation.

This was a commitment in the Change Collective Strategy and was due to be launched at Convention. We decided that an online Convention, and everything else that is going on, was not the best place and time for a pledge launch. It is also the strategy commitment that has had the most discussion at the EDI Committee and internally across different bits of the IoF as this has to work for individual and organisational members, and we would like our partners to sign up too.

We know we will embed behaviours that support a pledge in the Competency Framework for our learning and development offer. Without a change in behaviour and action a pledge cannot change the profession. The decision to develop a pledge was made to ensure a commitment to EDI across the profession and to provide a way to monitor progress in becoming more diverse and inclusive.

We want to hear from you. All Change Collective work is better for having your voices and views shaping what we do. We need to know whether you want a pledge, as individuals and for your organisations. We need to know whether you think an IoF pledge can sit separately from the organisations you work with and for. We need to know what sort of pledge you want. Should it be a short statement, a set of actions, a quality mark or any combination of these?

The Who Isn’t In the Room? report provided us with the data on the gaps in the profession. We would like to be able to capture an annual picture to track the changes in the profession and, perhaps, link this to the pledge.

A shorter version of this survey has been shared with the Charity HR Network. Their responses will be added to yours to inform the development of the pledge for the EDI Committee to discuss and decide on in September. The survey is open now until 7th August, 2020. Please share with your fundraising colleagues, managers and HR departments. Take the survey here.
