With the deadline for the National Fundraising Awards only a week away, this year’s judges were asked for the one thing they most want to see in the entries to the awards. Read their answers below
Joyce Fraser explains why the fundraising sector needs the #ChangeCollective, and how the National Fundraising Awards are an opportunity for an equal, diverse and inclusive range of individuals and organisations to receive recognition.
What 20 years of fundraising experience has taught us at Rapidata is that actually, while how you look after your clients has to be top priority, a wider commitment to the whole sector is vital if you are to excel on a long-term basis. And surely – as a supplier to and for the sector – it is not only the right thing to do, but it makes good business sense to do all we can to strengthen the fundraising environment and to encourage innovation.
There has quite possibly never been a more important time to share and celebrate the good use of insight in fundraising. With charities increasingly challenged to find ways of engaging new supporters and growing income within the bounds of new regulations, data analytics and insight are playing an ever-greater role.
Since Autistica won two IoF National Fundraising Awards last year, there has been a palpable sense among the team that we can achieve things that appear impossible for a charity our size – we have the proof that we can do it!
We felt honoured at Crisis to win the IoF National Fundraising Awards 2017, Fundraising Charity of the Year and Best Individual Giving Campaign. Externally, it was a stamp of quality that built trust and confidence among our supporters. Internally, we saw the award as validation of some of our core organisational values.
Lyndall Stein’s fundraising career impressed the judges and audience alike at the 2017 National Fundraising Awards. Her Lifetime Contribution Award win gave the humble and generous Stein a platform to thank her peers and kind strangers:
If there was an industry award for resilience, then fundraisers would be at the top of that shortlist. Whether we stand in the rain with a bucket, pitch to an audience of FTSE100 employees, write appeals or cheer on marathon runners – each year can feel tougher than the last. Yet, this doesn’t stop us leaping out of bed, taking a sip of optimism and committing to being the best fundraisers we can be.
