Regulation and the Code
Fundraising is regulated through a self-regulatory system. The Fundraising Regulator sets and maintains the standards for charitable fundraising. They ensure that fundraising is respectful, open, honest and accountable to the public.
The Fundraising Regulator is responsible for regulation in England and Wales. For more information on fundraising across the UK and the arrangements in Scotland and Northern Ireland visit the Regulator's website.
The standards for fundraising are outlined out in the Code of Fundraising Practice which the Fundraising Regulator sets through its Standards Committee. All IoF members are expected to follow the Code of Fundraising Practice as set out in our Code of Conduct.
As well as setting the standards for fundraising, the Fundraising Regulator also takes complaints about fundraising, investigates cases and adjudicates on fundraising practice. For more information, go to the Fundraising Regulator’s information on complaints.
