Community fundraising is all about getting people involved, and supporting, assisting, advising and guiding those individuals & organisations who want to help you. Done well, it can be a powerful tool for reaching out and engaging with new supporters, as well as a solid source of long-term income. This comprehensive hands-on two day course provides you with the practical skills and knowledge you need to become an effective community fundraiser.

Who should attend:

This is an entry level course aimed at individuals who have been working in a community fundraising role for between 6 months to 2 years.

This course will help you understand how to work effectively with your volunteers and your team to ensure your community fundraising activities run smoothly and successfully.  It will enable you to develop relevant skills and knowledge whilst at the same time building your confidence. The skills you gain will assist you to contribute to a well-planned and professionally implemented community fundraising programme which can be critical to your organisation's fundraising success and play a significant role in how your charity and cause are perceived.

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Recognise the benefits of community fundraising, the importance of volunteers and volunteer roles
  • Identify those in the community who can be involved and in what way
  • Understand motivations - why people and organisations get involved and what’s important to them
  • Successfully recruit, manage and retain volunteers to your organisation
  • Work effectively with your volunteers and support groups by understanding their motivations and use practical techniques to help you overcome problems
  • Appreciate the value of community fundraising as a an acquisition method and a way to engage with potential and current supporters
  • Understand the importance of thanking in the re-engagement process
  • Choose and manage suitable events and activities and understand how to maximise participation and repeat fundraisers
  • Plan and set appropriate targets to ensure activities and events achieve what was intended financially and in other ways
  • Understand appropriate legalities/Code of Fundraising Practice and know where to source information

About Your Trainer:

Gill Jolly FInstF(Dip) has a background in Psychology and over 30 years’ experience in the charity sector working as a fundraiser, manager, director and trainer of fundraisers and support teams with a wide variety of sizes and types of organisation. She now runs her own consultancy and works with not-for-profit organisations across the UK and Europe providing a wide range of bespoke fundraising and management consultancy services. Gill has worked with the IoF since 2000 delivering fundraising’s professional qualifications and leading courses on strategy, management and implementation.
