Our theme this year is Re-power!
Fundraising has taken a big hit over the past few years but it’s time for us to recharge those batteries. This is a great profession, one which we should all be proud to be in. It’s time to shake up what we do and take time to focus on smashing those goals.
At this year’s conference, we want to empower you to go back to the office with a fresh look. The day will be packed with sessions lead by motivational speakers from the third sector who will inspire and “Re-power” your fundraising career.
The IoF West Midlands Conference is held annually by the Institute of Fundraising West Midlands and is the place for fundraisers in the West Midlands to meet sector leaders, fellow fundraising professionals, and develop skills and knowledge.
Our speakers from across the sector deliver a diverse and engaging range of workshops and case studies. Not only do we pack the day with as many learning opportunities as possible, but there are plenty of social and networking opportunities as well.
The event brings together a mix of experience from the charity sector, and engages attendees through multiple sessions and workshops throughout the day.
Sessions will be based on a broad range of themes including something for everyone- trusts, corporate, events, community, sole fundraisers, major donors, volunteering, leadership, supporter journeys, digital....and more!!
Schedule (Full details to follow)
Opening Plenary – Jess Phillips
Jess Phillips is a Labour Party politician who became the MP for the constituency of Birmingham Yardley at the 2015 general election.
Jess has committed her life to improving the lives of others, especially the most vulnerable, and spent five years working for Women’s Aid supporting and defending women. She became a councillor in 2012 through the Labour Future Candidates Programme. In this role, she worked tirelessly to support residents, with her work being recognised when she became Birmingham's first-ever Victims Champion.
Since becoming an MP, Jess has continued her fight to support those who need it the most and has been appointed to the Women and Equalities Committee, the Backbench Business Committee and Chair of the Women’s PLP. Jess has earned a reputation for plain speaking since being elected, unfazed by threats and calling out sexist attitudes as she promotes women’s rights.
Included in your ticket cost is a spot on ONE of our “Power Session”.
Each session is designed to power you up at midday and give you some handy tips to take away.
Please make your selection when booking your ticket
Power session 1: How to excel with Excel
A practical session showing you how to use the most powerful and free tool on your PC. In this Power Session you will learn top tips on how to use Excel to manage your work, plan your pipelines and visualise data which will support your work and demonstrate your impact. Suitable for Excel wizards and newbies.
Power session 2: Sole Fundraisers
Do you often feel like a small fish in a big pond not knowing where to start? Are you tasked with a big fundraising target but are the only fundraiser? If so, this session is for you. In this Power session, we discuss as a group what you want to discuss- bring your problems and questions and have a Pow Wow as a group to solve your issues with other sole fundraisers. Remember you’re not alone!
Power session 3: In conversation with…
In this intimate session, we will be one-to-one with an actual charity supporter (either a major donor or corporate partner) asking them questions such as- why do you support the charity you support? How do they make you happy? How do they annoy you? How do they keep you motivated to give to? There will also be a chance for you to get involved and ask your own questions.
Power session 4: How to network with confidence – because who you know is everything
Networks are where you find your next supporter, your next volunteer and your next sponsor. Who you know can also accelerate your career progression, help you get your next job and provide great learning and development opportunities. Good networks also keep you going when things get tough and help you celebrate your successes. Yet many of us dread ‘networking’. In this practical session, led by Lucy Gower, founder and director at Lucidity, learn tips to build and keep your networks and enjoy doing it.
Closing Plenary – Let's Interfere with Fear (and have some fun along the way!)
Jules Mitchell; a truly mischievous genius, M.A.D. about happiness & interfering with fear!
Speaker, Author, Trainer, Coach.
Jules is at her happiest delivering insightful talks about human behaviour to audiences both big and small. In a nutshell she’s MAD ABOUT HAPPINESS!
Not the old paradigm of ‘getting happiness’ (I’ll be happy when I GET the house, partner, money, fill in the blanks …) but the inner happiness and contentment you feel when you actually GET life, GET yourself and live with the knowledge that, ultimately you are in creative control of life on your own terms.
Jules’ mission is simple; to introduce audiences to both the BIGGER version of themselves, their whole self; and to impart simple life hacks – her Joy Shots, that will uncover that hidden Self and send stress packing. Change is inevitable for all of us and it is either by CHOICE or by CHANCE that your life will change, which one would you prefer?
What attendees will leave with:
1. Knowledge on how to move your decisions, actions and behaviours from the automaticity of CHANCE to the purposeful practice of CHOICE!
2. Which simple ‘science-backed’ tools to tuck into your toolkit to alleviate stress, self-doubt and fear-based thinking.
3. A simple formula that leads to a life that is truly fulfilled -compared to a life that is all too often just filled full!
Speaker updates will be posted on our website in the weeks coming up to the Conference and the final schedule for the day will be emailed to delegates by the beginning of October.
