The conference is entirely organised by volunteer members of the Cultural Sector Network Conference committee, who give their time and expertise pro-bono.
Kane Moore - Conference Chair, Director of Development Achates Philanthropy
Kane is a high-level fundraiser with more than 10 years’ experience across the arts, health and beyond profit sectors. He recently joined arts fundraising consultant Achates Philanthropy in the new post of Director of Development As Head of Development at Battersea Arts Centre completed the £13 million capital campaign to restore their historic town hall venue and managed the Phoenix disaster appeal following the fire to their main auditorium in 2015. Prior to this Kane fundraised for education charity Anne Frank Trust UK and most recently directed the multi-million-pound appeal for medical research charity The Scar Free Foundation.
Kane is the Chair of the Institute of Fundraising’s annual Cultural Sector Network Conference, a founding Trustee of new arts venue Streatham Space Project and a Trustee of theatre companies Sounds Like Chaos and Uninvited Guests.
Rosario Bellolio - Programme Co-ordinator, RAISE: Arts, Culture & Heritage Programme, Institute of Fundraising
Rosario is Programme Coordinator for the RAISE: Arts, Culture & Heritage Programme at the Institute of Fundraising. Prior to joining the Institute of Fundraising, she has experience working as arts manager and raising funds for diverse arts and government organisations in London and her native country of Chile. Rosario graduated in 2018 from her Master’s Degree in Arts and Cultural Management at King´s College London.
David Burgess MInstF - Director Apollo Fundraising
David is an experienced fundraising consultant specialising in securing support for the arts and culture sector. During his career he has helped to raise philanthropic support for a range of organisations, including Manchester Camerata, the Royal Exchange Theatre, Glyndebourne, English Touring Opera and the Royal Pavilion & Museums.
As Director of Apollo Fundraising, David has helped arts organisations of all shapes and sizes to achieve their fundraising goals. In the last year he has helped fundraise for an art gallery with no walls, a Cathedral with a 123m spire that’s particularly popular with Russian tourists and a 3,000-year-old gold necklace that was either worn by a pregnant woman or a sacrificial animal.
Kirsten Cree - Development Manager, Tobacco Factory Theatres
Kirsten is Development Manager at Tobacco Factory Theatres, leading on Trust and Foundation fundraising as well as supporting the theatre’s Executive Director with Major Donor giving. She previously held the role of Development Assistant at Arnolfini where she gained five years’ experience working across all aspects of fundraising, securing donations from individuals, sponsorship from corporates and income from public funding organisations and trusts and foundations.
She is an advocate for talent development in young people and strives to address inequalities across the sector; she was responsible for coordinating and implementing Arnolfini’s Equality Action Plan in 2017/18 and currently holds the position of South West Regional Coordinator for Young Arts Fundraisers network. Kirsten has been a member of the Board of Trustees for Leeds based MAP Charity (Music and Arts Production Charity) since 2017, whose strategic priority over the last two years has been to secure £2.4 million for a capital project to permanently home the organisation and secure its future. She is passionate about readdressing the distribution of wealth, socially engaged creative projects, activism and organisational change management.
Alexandra Davis - Development Manager, Major Gifts, The National Gallery
Alexandra’s career has seen her manage fundraising programmes across a diverse range of the arts, from the Landmark Trust, Tate, The London Library and the Gate Theatre to the National Gallery, where she is currently responsible for raising major gifts across all Gallery activities.
She sits on the Development Board of St John’s College, University of Durham, and is a Trustee of the Ian Karten Charitable Trust, which provides assistive technologies and educational access for people with disabilities or economic disadvantages. She was a founding Board Member and Director of Young Arts Fundraisers from 2016-2018. Alexandra is passionate about arts education and is also an experienced speaker, writing and delivering regular public tours and talks on the collection at the V&A Museum and the National Gallery.
Dan Fletcher MInstF (Dip) - Director (Fundraising) Moore Kingston Smith Fundraising and Management
Dan is Treasurer for the Cultural Sector Network. He has worked in fundraising for 20 years with the last six as a consultant. His broad background of leading fundraising teams has enabled him to provide insights as a consultant, focusing particularly on fundraising strategy, major giving and legacy marketing. He also serves on the Institute’s Learning and Development committee, and is a trustee of the national charity, Rethink Mental Illness, and environmental charity, Sustainable St Albans.
Nicole Gibson-Clark - Senior Patrons and Individual Giving Manager, Barbican Centre
Nicole manages the Individual Giving team at the Barbican Centre which includes the Patrons programme, Direct Marketing and Visitor Giving. This is her first role in the arts sector. Prior to joining the Barbican she worked in Major Gifts fundraising at King’s College London, Marie Curie and Fight for Sight.
Zoe Hawken - Senior Development Executive, Science Museum
Zoe Hawken is the Senior Development Executive for the Science Museum working with trusts, foundations and, occasionally, the government. Zoe focuses mainly on securing major gifts for capital projects, recent successes include a 7 figure gift from the Heritage Lottery Fund for a gallery opening at the Science Museum in the autumn of 2019.
Francesca Hewitt - Director, Philanthropy Company
Francesca was formerly Head of Development at the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology, University of Oxford from 2015-2018. In that role she led the Museum’s fundraising programme across all income streams raising £24m for the Museum. She was responsible for one of the most ambitious and successful arts endowment campaigns: the £50 million Ashmolean Fund, as well as fundraising for many other key projects including a major £1.65m acquisition, numerous capital projects, education, conservation and the Ashmolean’s world-class exhibitions programme. Her experience spans developing and growing Membership groups including Friends and Patrons, working with advisory and Trustee Boards, building individual and visitor giving streams, and raising major gifts from Trusts, Foundations and individuals and statutory funders.
Emily Hurrell - Development Manager, Streetwise Opera
Emily Hurrell has been working in the arts for six years and fundraising for five. She is currently Development Manager at Streetwise Opera, an award-winning charity that uses music to help people who are or have been homeless make positive changes in their lives. She has extensive experience in all areas of fundraising and is currently focusing on individual and major giving, events and trusts and foundations. She sits on the Professional Development Sub-Committee of the Cultural Sector Network and the Repertoire Sub-Committee of the Royal Free Music Society.
Matthew Ross - Senior Philanthropy Manager, Royal Academy of Music, Director, Young Arts Fundraisers
Matthew is Senior Philanthropy Manager for the Royal Academy of Music and a Co-founder and Director of Young Arts Fundraisers. Matthew began his fundraising career at UCL where he raised funds for causes ranging from dementia research and the refugee crisis in Lebanon to the UCL Art Museum. He also served as a committee member of Young People in the Arts.
Previously, Matthew worked in classical music for organisations including Rayfield Allied and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and for the conductor Ivor Bolton, and completed a PhD at UCL on late medieval cultural history.
Laura Sears - Associate Director, Execucare
Laura joined Execucare as Associate Director in 2017 following a successful fundraising career with some of the UK’s leading cultural organisations including BAFTA, the Science Museum and the V&A, where she was Head of Corporate Partnerships.
Execucare is a leading executive search and recruitment agency specialising in fundraising roles for the arts, heritage and cultural sector, higher education, schools and charities.
Laura oversees Execucare’s Arts portfolio, with recent clients including The Old Vic, the Design Museum, the V&A, Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art, the Geffrye Museum, Scottish Ballet, Royal Museums Greenwich, The Postal Museum, the Royal Drawing School and the Royal College of Music, amongst others.
Vesna Sokolovska Jovicevic FRSA - Green Culture project
Vesna is a cultural manager and producer, leading the London-based NGO Krug, with branches in Skopje, Macedonia and Podgorica and Cetinje, Montenegro. She has promoted Balkan cultures in the UK since 2006 through arts exhibitions, theatre performances, film festivals, concerts, literature readings, and educational projects.
Vesna promotes the environmentally sustainable creative sector through activities like Green Culture, the annual gathering for the green creative sector, taking place for the 8th time in Montenegro in June 2019. Parallel to this, she is preparing the Green Culture – Planetary Summit 2020, linking events in the UK, Europe and the US for a greater impact of the sustainable cultural sector on the wider global community. Since 2015, she’s been part of Al Gore’s Climate Reality Leadership Team.
Frances Wheare - Director of Development, Voltaire Foundation
Frances has over a decade’s experience of fundraising for arts, culture and higher education, and for the last five years has been working at the University of Oxford, the most ambitious higher education campaign outside of the US. At the Ashmolean Museum, she secured major support for the Ashmolean Fund, one of the UK’s most successful arts endowment campaigns, as well as exhibitions, programmes and education activity. She has significant experience across all income streams. In her current role, Frances is responsible for developing the Voltaire Foundation’s future strategy, and leads on all fundraising and communications activity.
