Data protection

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) became effective in the UK on 28 May 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulation (PECR) also applies to give people specific privacy rights in relation to electronic communications.

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) is the UK's independent body set up to uphold information rights and set guidance for all sectors on how to comply with data protection law.

On 25th May 2018, the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect in the UK. This replaced the Data Protection Act (1998) and brought in a new range of requirements for all sectors and organisations. Fundraisers and charities need to understand how this will affect their work and their communications with supporters.

We have brought together the Understanding GDPR resources to help you comply with its requirements.
